In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In vitro fertilization (IVF) involves combining eggs retrieved from the woman with sperm in a laboratory setting for fertilization. Fertilization and embryo development are then monitored in the laboratory. The appropriate embryo or embryos are transferred into the uterus according to the individual treatment plan.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It may affect the ovaries, fallopian tubes and other areas within the pelvis and abdomen. Endometriosis lesions respond to hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle and may cause inflammation, adhesions and, in some patients, pain.
Endometriosis cysts that develop in the ovaries are known as endometriomas, sometimes referred to as “chocolate cysts.”
